The Complexity of the Kth Largest Subset Problem and Related Problems

چکیده
We show that the Kth largest subset problem and the Kth largest m-tuple problem are in PP and hard for PP under polynomial-time Turing reductions. Several problems from the literature were previously shown NPhard via reductions from those two problems, and by our main result they become PP-hard as well. We also provide complementary PP-upper bounds for some of them.

Approximation Solutions for Time-Varying Shortest Path Problem
Abstract. Time-varying network optimization problems have tradition-ally been solved by specialized algorithms. These algorithms have NP-complement time complexity. This paper considers the time-varying short-est path problem, in which can be optimally solved in O(T(m + n)) time, where T is a given integer. For this problem with arbitrary waiting times,we propose an approximation algorithm, whic...
متن کاملThe Complexity of Finding kth Most Probable Explanations in Probabilistic Networks
In modern decision-support systems, probabilistic networks model uncertainty by a directed acyclic graph quantified by probabilities. Two closely related problems on these networks are the Kth MPE and Kth Partial MAP problems, which both take a network and a positive integer k for their input. In the Kth MPE problem, given a partition of the network’s nodes into evidence and explanation nodes a...
متن کاملOn the computational complexity of finding a minimal basis for the guess and determine attack
Guess-and-determine attack is one of the general attacks on stream ciphers. It is a common cryptanalysis tool for evaluating security of stream ciphers. The effectiveness of this attack is based on the number of unknown bits which will be guessed by the attacker to break the cryptosystem. In this work, we present a relation between the minimum numbers of the guessed bits and uniquely restricted...
متن کاملScheduling on flexible flow shop with cost-related objective function considering outsourcing options
This study considers outsourcing decisions in a flexible flow shop scheduling problem, in which each job can be processed by either an in-house production line or outsourced. The selected objective function aims to minimize the weighted sum of tardiness costs, in-house production costs, and outsourcing costs with respect to the jobs due date. The purpose of the problem is to select the jobs tha...
متن کاملA New Approach to Solve N-Queen Problem with Parallel Genetic Algorithm
Over the past few decades great efforts were made to solve uncertain hybrid optimization problems. The n-Queen problem is one of such problems that many solutions have been proposed for. The traditional methods to solve this problem are exponential in terms of runtime and are not acceptable in terms of space and memory complexity. In this study, parallel genetic algorithms are proposed to solve...
